This Privacy Policy explains how Sem, owned by Mark Mendoza and associated with Layered Co., collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Sem mobile application or website. This page should be reviewed before launch and is not a substitute for legal advice.

1. Information We Collect

Sem may collect information you provide directly, including account credentials, profile/settings information, support requests, and beta feedback.

When you connect financial accounts through Plaid, Sem may receive account, balance, liability, institution, and payoff-related information needed to provide debt overview and payoff projection features.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to authenticate users, connect accounts, discover liabilities, show debt details, calculate payoff projections, sync connected account data, provide support, and improve the Sem experience.

3. Plaid Connections

Sem uses Plaid as the secure account connection provider. Plaid is used for institution linking, account balances, and liability data. Your use of Plaid may also be subject to Plaid's own privacy practices.

4. Cloud Storage and Backend Processing

Sem uses Firebase Authentication for user accounts, Firebase Cloud Functions for backend processing, and Firestore for cloud database storage. Financial data is primarily stored in Firestore under each authenticated user so you can access your Sem data after signing in.

Sensitive Plaid access tokens are handled through backend infrastructure and are not exposed to the mobile app client. Local app storage may include session state, interface preferences, cached views, and similar device-level data.

5. Sharing and Selling Data

Sem does not sell personal financial data. We may share information with service providers that help operate the app, such as Plaid, Firebase/Google Cloud, app store platforms, diagnostics tools, or support systems, only as needed to provide and maintain Sem.

6. Security

We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect user information, including backend processing for sensitive Plaid token handling. No electronic storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Account and Data Requests

You may contact us to request help with account access, data questions, or account deletion. Some information may need to be retained when required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or operational records.

8. Diagnostics and Feedback

Sem may use optional crash reporting, diagnostics, or user-feedback tools, such as Sentry, to understand app issues and improve reliability.
